“We are always getting ready to live…but never living.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
The following is taken from http://www.solutions5.com/ :
The 5 Agreements
1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
3. DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement you can completely change your life.
4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.
5. LIVE IN THE NOW. You have ONE moment, this moment. Consistently telling yourself the truth in all situations is your reality. The past is behind you, the future has not yet arrived. Presence is power. Be here. Still. The next moment is already on its way. The past doesn’t change. Put your attention on today, free yourself.

“Apprehend Life”
Robert, what do you mean by that? What does apprehend life mean?
Let’s first look at a definition:
Apprehend -
1.To take into custody; arrest by legal warrant or authority:
2.To grasp the meaning of; understand, esp. intuitively; perceive.
I had never seen these two words, apprehend life, together in a sentence before I read them in a book entitled, If Aristotle ran General Motors, by Tom Morris. In this book Tom writes, “All our senses can be involved in each of these modes of apprehending life.”
When I read these two words together I froze! I thought; what a concept! To think that life, an abundant, worthy, purposeful, joyous, life worth living has to be apprehended. The idea that life was a fugitive on the run, and in order to have it, I would have to actively hunt it, track it, find it, capture it, and then hold it as a prisoner, was fascinating! It was an epiphany!
You mean to tell me that the good life will not just come to me like a lost hungry puppy wagging its tail and begging for my attention? I can’t just sit back and wait for joy and happiness to arbitrarily drift into my life on the frolicking seeds of a Dandy Lion carrying all my wishes into fruition? Prince Charming isn’t galloping toward me right this second on his white stallion yearning to whisk me away into happily ever after? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!
I am afraid not. If we want a life full of joy, happiness, purpose, love, and all the other things that we usually only experience in a Hallmark card, then we have to get off of our duffs and go after it!
“It is not having but doing that is most intimately related to the fullest experience of being.” –Tom Morris
We have to take action!
“The soul ever yearns to be doing something!” - Cicero
We have to stop wanting… and start doing!
“Happiness is participation… in something that brings fulfillment!” – Aristotle
Do you smell that? That is the scent of the good life that you want and deserve. All we have to do now is take action…start tracking it… stay on its tail… hunt it down…and Apprehend Life! -RDH

Don’t let someone else open your “PRESENT!” - by Robert Hoeye
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift… That is why it is called the Present!”
Thinking back to when I was a young child. I recall times when I received a present of some kind; Christmas, Birthdays, Easter baskets on Easter. I remember the excitement in the air when it was time to open them!
The bright eyed anticipation…
The explosive curiosity…
The rapid breathes of hopefulness...
I can also remember the reaction when my older brother or sister offered to open my gifts for me… Pure pandemonium!!! No way would I ever let someone else open MY PRESENT!!! There is an overpowering covetousness that takes place toward an awaiting unknown pleasure… Mine! Mine! Mine! Open MY present? Steal my joy?
No way!
Not going to happen!
NEVER!
Unfortunately, I have come to realize that, as an adult, I am letting other people open my present all the time! How can that be? By giving too much thought and merit to what people say or do, I am allowing them to stifle my anticipation, curiosity, and hopefulness toward each moment in my day…and often even steal my joy!
I like to define hope as that millisecond between breathes, that brief pause separating exhale and inhale. Maybe you haven’t ever thought about this, but can’t the epitome of hope and expectation be found in our trusting belief that with every breathe we let go there will always be another one there to take back in? I think so.
Our lives are full of these special little moments…gifts from God allowing us to breathe and love and wonder… to anticipate, acknowledge, and appreciate… these are the seconds, minutes, and hours of our PRESENT.
Are you taking the time to open your PRESENT or are you letting people and circumstances steal the joy that is meant for you?
