“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift… That is why it is called the Present!”
Thinking back to when I was a young child. I recall times when I received a present of some kind; Christmas, Birthdays, Easter baskets on Easter. I remember the excitement in the air when it was time to open them!
The bright eyed anticipation…
The explosive curiosity…
The rapid breathes of hopefulness...
I can also remember the reaction when my older brother or sister offered to open my gifts for me… Pure pandemonium!!! No way would I ever let someone else open MY PRESENT!!! There is an overpowering covetousness that takes place toward an awaiting unknown pleasure… Mine! Mine! Mine! Open MY present? Steal my joy?
No way!
Not going to happen!
NEVER!
Unfortunately, I have come to realize that, as an adult, I am letting other people open my present all the time! How can that be? By giving too much thought and merit to what people say or do, I am allowing them to stifle my anticipation, curiosity, and hopefulness toward each moment in my day…and often even steal my joy!
I like to define hope as that millisecond between breathes, that brief pause separating exhale and inhale. Maybe you haven’t ever thought about this, but can’t the epitome of hope and expectation be found in our trusting belief that with every breathe we let go there will always be another one there to take back in? I think so.
Our lives are full of these special little moments…gifts from God allowing us to breathe and love and wonder… to anticipate, acknowledge, and appreciate… these are the seconds, minutes, and hours of our PRESENT.
Are you taking the time to open your PRESENT or are you letting people and circumstances steal the joy that is meant for you?
"We do nothing because of fear... We act because of faith... We stop fearing and start acting because of HOPE! Lord, Please give me hope today." -RDH
